as far as i can tell the only way to get animals is if they are on the server when its made. Wait you can get animals to spawn? I was looking all over the wiki's specifically at the chickens. Other than a huge sand island to the west - with some sugar cane and cactus but sod all else - I've not found any other decent islands. Now armed with a compass, I'm looking for other landmasses. Start this yesterday afternoon - hit bedrock (and redstone) about 3 hours later.
